Enjoy this In The Kitchen guest article by HungryQbans, who got ready for the South Beach Seafood Festival with Executive Chef Demetrios Pyliotis of Poseidon Miami.
I (HungryQbans) had the pleasure of sitting down with Chef Demetrios Pyliotis and learning more about his culinary background. His authentic and delicious Greek cuisine is found in Miami Beach on Washington Ave at Poseidon Miami Greek Seafood Restaurant.
Before we dig into what this three-time Chef Champion will be bringing to the sand during South Beach Seafood Week, let’s learn more about him!
Chef Demetrios Pyliotis
Ever since he was a young child in Kalamata, Greece, he always found himself in the kitchen, this marked the beginning of his love for food.
He brought this love to South Florida in 2010 where he earned his culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu.
In 2013, Chef Demetrios opened Poseidon together with his brother. Ever since then, he’s been making a name for himself in Miami and the world as a truly authentic Greek chef.
His commitment to traditional Greek technique and ingredients paired with a progressive and hands-on presentation make it easy to see why he is winning award after award for his cuisine.
Chef Demetrios participates in South Beach Seafood Week’s VIP #ChefShowdown every year, and has won it THREE times!

Poseidon Miami – Miami Beach’s
Authentic Greek Restaurant
Walk into this restaurant and enter the Greek Islands. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with hints of blue and white throughout and it truly feels like you’re enjoying time in the sun-sprayed isles.
The food transports you there because the dishes are made with olive oil from Kalamata and spices also imported from Greece. Fish is caught fresh and flown in from the Aegean Sea.
My favorite seafood dish is the sea bass, grilled and de-boned table side with a delicious sauce made of olive oil, lemon, capers and herbs sitting on a bed of Greek horta.
You can taste his love of food in all the dishes he has created. These include the award winning octopus (my absolute favorite in town,) the Greek spreads and pita platter and delicious desserts like Galaktoboureko, a semolina custard in a crispy phyllo pastry shell bathed in yummy syrup.
South Beach Seafood Week’s VIP Chef Showdown
His dish for South Beach Seafood Week’s VIP Chef Showdown has always been my favorite out of ALL the competitors. He always creates something so mouth-watering and he does it with such ease. I can’t wait to see what he’ll be bringing this year.
Editor’s Note: The VIP Chef Showdown assembles 14 of Miami’s top executive chefs for an evening of competitive cook-offs where YOU are the judge. In a perfect combination of competition level cuisine, tropically fresh cocktails, and live entertainment, the Chef Showdown tours guests through the best of Miami’s culinary scene. This is a CAN’T miss experience for all.
I hope to see you all on the sand Friday, October 19th for Chef Showdown.
